The following contains spoilers for One Piece Episode 1100, "Powers on a Different Level! Luffy vs. Lucci!," now streaming on Crunchyroll.
The One Piece team at Toei Animation has entered the Spring 2024 anime season with a bang. According to the latest rankings on IMDb, Episode 1100, titled "Powers on a Different Level! Luffy vs. Lucci!" is officially the highest-rated episode of the entire series to date.
On April 8, a One Piece fan on X (formerly Twitter) shared the news, which was quickly confirmed by their followers. As shown in a screenshot shared by joyboy (or @joyboy6868) One Piece Episode 1100 currently has an impressive overall rating of 9.9/10 -- just one decimal point higher than One Piece Episode 484, "Marine Headquarters Collapses! Whitebeard's Silent Rage," which premiered in Japan on Jan. 23, 2011. Notably, Episode 1100 reintroduces Luffy's ultra-powerful Gear 5 form, which elevates the hero's powers to god-like levels. The episode debuted on April 7, 2024.
Episode 1100 chronicles a thrilling confrontation between Monkey D. Luffy and Rob Lucci, an elite assassin working alongside the World Government's intelligence group, Cipher Pol. Sakazuki, who also works at Marine headquarters, learns of Luffy's position on Egghead and his relationship with Dr. Vegapunk, the scientific mastermind behind the Void Century investigation. When Lucci learns of this, he sets out for Egghead to confront Luffy, despite being warned not to do so by his fellow CP0 members. This results in a major showdown, with both parties transforming into their ultimate Awakened states. Lucci proceeds to learn first-hand why Luffy's Gear 5 form is a force to be reckoned with.
One Piece anime fans got their first glimpse of Luffy's famous Gear 5 form in One Piece Film: Red before witnessing him in his full glory in Episodes 1071-1072 of the series. Gear 5 Luffy possesses incredible levels of strength and stamina, allowing him to absorb the full force of what would normally be a debilitating attack while emerging relatively unscathed. Additionally, the Hito Hito no Mi fruit dramatically increases the malleability of Luffy's rubber body, resulting in a number of absurd transformations on the battlefield. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda admitted to taking inspiration from American cartoons like Tom & Jerry in order to give the character a cartoony appeal. "I drew this because I wanted to have fun," Oda once explained.
